Illuminated designer light switch with a brass toggle and an individually selected colour from the NCS colour system from the YORK collection by ROHDE+ROHDE. NCS colours for precisely coordinated colour schemes

The Natural Colour System (NCS) provides a particularly detailed and systematic way of defining colours. This makes the NCS colour system especially useful for architecture, interior design, furniture planning and sophisticated colour schemes.

With YORK, this precise approach to colour planning can be extended right down to the light switch. The front plate is individually reverse-painted in the selected NCS colour, allowing it to be carefully coordinated with other surfaces and shades within the room.

This is particularly useful in projects where walls, furniture, doors, fitted cabinetry or other design elements have already been specified using a particular NCS colour code. The light switch can then be integrated with exceptional precision into the existing scheme.

From light, muted and natural shades to intense colours and deliberately chosen accent tones, the extensive NCS colour system offers an exceptionally broad range of design possibilities.

Brass as a warm contrast to the individual NCS colour

The solid toggles with a high-quality brass finish add a warm metallic accent to the individually coloured front plate.

When combined with cool greys, blues and greens in particular, brass creates an appealing contrast between the clean expanse of colour and the warm metal tone. With beige, red, terracotta and other earthy shades, by contrast, the brass can blend more harmoniously into the overall design.

The character of the switch therefore changes significantly depending on the NCS colour selected – from understated and architectural to warm, decorative and inviting.

It can also be coordinated with other brass details within the room, such as taps, lighting, door handles, cabinet hardware or decorative features.

NCS colour hand-applied behind the transparent front

With YORK, the selected NCS colour is not applied to the visible face of the front plate. Instead, the reverse of the crystal-clear acrylic glass is hand-painted in the chosen NCS shade in the ROHDE+ROHDE studio.

The colour is therefore viewed through the transparent front material. This technique creates a distinctive sense of visual depth and a brilliant glass effect that differs significantly from a conventionally painted surface.

At the same time, the actual paint layer remains protected behind the transparent front. During everyday use, the painted finish does not come into direct contact with hands or other objects.

The interaction between the NCS colour and the crystal-clear surface gives the front plate a distinctive and particularly refined appearance.

Illuminated brass toggle

The brass toggle can optionally be fitted with a subtle point of light. Depending on the electrical installation, the supplied 230 V LED insert can be used as an orientation light, indicator light or permanently illuminated design feature.

The appearance of the light point changes according to the NCS colour selected. Against darker front plates it stands out particularly clearly, while on lighter or softer shades it blends more subtly into the overall design.

Together with the brass, this creates a carefully balanced interplay of colour, metal and light.

If illumination is not required, the 230 V LED insert can simply be omitted during installation.

Crystal-clear glass effect with excellent durability

For its YORK front plates, ROHDE+ROHDE uses high-quality crystal-clear acrylic glass with effective scratch protection. The material is designed for everyday use and is eleven times more impact-resistant than conventional glass.

A UV filter integrated into the front material also helps to provide long-term protection for the reverse-painted colour finish against changes caused by exposure to light.

Because the colour layer is protected behind the transparent surface, YORK combines a high-quality reverse-painted finish with a durable and easy-care visible front.

NCS colour as part of the interior design

An individually selected NCS colour allows the light switch to be incorporated with exceptional precision into an existing or newly planned colour scheme.

The front plate can, for example, be finished to complement the wall colour, repeat an NCS shade used on furniture or fitted cabinetry, or deliberately introduce a second colour as an accent.

In this way, the light switch becomes more than a purely technical component and forms a carefully considered part of the interior architecture.

Installation of YORK toggle light switches

YORK can be used for both individual wall boxes and combinations of several light switches and sockets. Multiple wall boxes can be arranged horizontally or vertically and covered by a single continuous front plate.

For multiple configurations, the standard 71 mm centre-to-centre spacing must be maintained.

The wall boxes must be at least 45 mm deep. For secure installation, the switch mechanisms are screwed directly into the wall boxes.

Change the colour later – retain the existing switch mechanism

The visible YORK front plate and the installed switch mechanism are separate components. If the room is redesigned or given a different colour scheme at a later date, there is therefore no need to replace the complete light switch.

A new front plate in another chosen NCS colour can be ordered separately and fitted in place of the existing front. The switch mechanism and electrical installation remain unchanged in the wall.

No electrician is required when replacing the front plate only.
